The Golden Road Leads To Ventura This Weekend w/
Dead Set 805, Shaky Feelin’, and The Alligators

Dead Set 805

Santa Barbara-based Dead Set 805, featured in this week’s Wall of News “Spotlight” interview by Dennis McNally, is making the jaunt down to Ventura Music Hall this coming Friday, January 19th to play alongside hometown pranksters Shaky Feelin’ and SKULL & ROSES house band The Alligators for an Official SKULL & ROSES Presents show ahead of the April Deadhead festivities at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

In the “Spotlight” piece, 805 founding guitarist/vocalist Justin Memenas explained everything clicking with regards to the Grateful Dead on a drive home from high school while listening to “Sugar Magnolia.” From that moment on, the guitar lessons and non-stop practice began, eventually evolving into jam sessions with friends, then onto playing local college parties, leading into bars and venues, and the occasional outdoor mountain show overlooking the coast, where they set up a generator, plug in and play.

Dead Set 805

What is wild is that these 805 cats weren’t even born until after Jerry left this plane of existence. But, that’s the thing about the Grateful Dead, their music, and the community that they created. It transcends generations. Time ceases to exist. And as we all know, what is Dead may never die.

DEAD SET 805 is:
Aidan Kockler – bass • Cassidy Fragakis – vocals, guitar  • Ethan Slaman – drums, percussion • Gavin Mentz – drums • Harrison Arakawa – trombone • Jack Corliss – keys • Jordan Russo – guitar, vocals • Justin Memenas – guitar, vocals  • Nico Johnson – percussion, drums

Shaky Feelin’, on the other hand, is a group of seasoned vets from the Ventura area that has been touring around the Southwest region, including Colorado, going on 13+ years. The band has dropped three original albums, including 2022’s Brand New Day. Their sound draws inspiration from the Grateful Dead, Phish, The Disco Biscuits, Sublime, and more. And….they love playing a full Dead-heavy set of tasty tunes.

Shaky Feelin’

Consisting of Mark Masson (guitar & vocals), Jeff Hiller (bass guitar), Paul Menchaca (drums & vocals), Cameron Probe (drums & percussion) and Franklin Murphy (keys & vocals), Shaky Feelin’ has played every SKULL & ROSES festival since the beginning back in 2017. These guys know how to throw a party! The band just announced they will be joined by special guest guitarist/vocalist Katie Skene for a few songs during their set as well.

Rounding out the Ventura Music Hall lineup is The Alligators, who began their musical journey at the inaugural SKULL & ROSES back in 2017. The group pays homage to the early years of the Dead, especially the songs that featured founding keyboardist/singer Ron “Pigpen” McKernan. Their repertoire has expanded over the years, and you never know what you’re going to get with lead singer Pete Carona and company once they take the stage. You can bet that it will be nothing short of Chomp-tastic though.

The Alligators

The Alligators will be joined by a special guest of their own, as young up and coming NorCal shredder Bella Rayne will be lending her guitar skills to the band’s set. Rayne has played with the likes of Zach Nugent (JGB, Deadset), Sunshine Garcia Becker (Further, JGB), Dave A’Bear (JGB, Steely Dead), Elliott Peck (Midnight North), and more.

If you are in the Ventura area, you won’t want to miss this show. Get your tickets HERE!
