Melvin Seals & JGB Bring The Vibe To The Warfield

w/ Stu Allen & Mars Hotel

This past weekend, San Francisco was the place to be as Melvin Seals & JGB headlined the legendary Warfield Theater alongside Stu Allen & Mars Hotel. The two acts played to a packed house of Bay Area Deadheads.

Seals and Co. brought along legendary tenor saxophonist Ron Holloway, as well as long-time JGB singer Jacklyn LaBranch and singer Stephanie Hartwell-Mandela for what was quite a celebratory evening. A cover of Bob Marley’s “Stir It Up” got everyone in the right headspace early on, while “Cats Under The Stars” brought some serious groove. Things went to deep space during the “Don’t Let Go > We Be Jammin’” segment of the show with Holloway and John K each taking exploratory solos.

Stu Allen & Mars Hotel opened the evening with an incredible lineup led by Allen (guitar/vocals), featuring Alex Jordan (guitar/vocals), Jason Crosby (keys/fiddle), Reed Mathis (bass), Jay Lane (drums), and Stephanie Salva (vocals). Highlights from the set include “Feels Like A Stranger,” “Let It Grow,” and “The Music Never Stopped.”

Both bands will be at this year’s SKULL & ROSES, with Mars Hotel set to play on Friday and Seals & JGB scheduled for Sunday. Allen and Seals are playing multiple sets over the weekend, with Allen also joining Cubensis and Garcia Grisman Revisited, and Seals with Sages & Spirits. Lane and Mathis will be playing with Kadlecik and Jeff Chimenti for a highly-anticipated Golden Gate Wingmen reunion set on Friday night.

JGB will also be in Maine this coming weekend for the 5th Annual Fire On The Mountain at Sugarloaf Mountain. They will also be back in Cali on February 17th with a show at Los Angeles’ Lodge Room Highland Park.
