TONE ZONE

By Brad Sarno

Jon Gold—Jerry’s Middle Finger

For organ tones, Jon plays a Hammond SK-1 portable organ that feeds a vintage 60’s Leslie Combo Preamp stomp box that goes into a chopped and modded 50’s era Leslie 147 rotary speaker. The Leslie is loaded with a Jensen P15LL woofer and a V21 horn. He uses the Hammond EXP-100 expression pedal too.

For piano, Wurlitzer, Rhodes, and Clavinet sounds, Jon plays a 2009 Nord Electro 3 keyboard either direct to the house or thru a QSC K10.2 powered speaker for smaller club settings.

He connects his gear with Neutrik cables. He uses a Proline sustain pedal and sometimes a Dunlop Cry Baby wah-wah and Boss Chorus pedal. Jon uses Proline double x-braced keyboard stands and Roc ’n’ Soc Nitro drum throne for all night comfort. At home, Jon enjoys his Hammond B-3 organ with two Leslie 122’s that Melvin Seals played with JMF at their Drive-In concert at Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo, CA in November of 2020.
