Strap One On by Jenny, part two

Part Two of Two

Jenny opened an Instagram account to showcase her work and one day Oteil Burbridge sent a message inquiring about an anniversary gift for his wife. Equally excited, they connected and shared an amazing conversation about his love story and intention for the gift. Jenny manifested their ideas into a great leather bag with a custom stealie.

When they finally met, she shared images of her guitar straps with Oteil and he commissioned her on the spot. Designs evolved from his personal mythology and germane symbols they discussed, his story a muse for her creativity. Jenny made two straps, one more spiritual, and the other, straight-up Grateful Dead. Oteil wore the former strap while playing Boulder with Dead & Co in 2017 and photos on social media kicked up a windstorm on Jenny’s IG.

Later that year, Melvin Seals reached out and asked Jenny to create a strap for auction at the A Merry Jerry Christmas benefit. Inspired, she sent a message to Monet Weir, suggesting she bid on the strap for her father. Digital clicks aligned, and Monet responded, but instead wanted a custom strap for Bobby’s Christmas gift. Considering essential colors and personal design elements, Jenny built an incredible strap–intimate, regal and a cool surprise for the Weirwolf. Business mushroomed, and she found herself designing custom straps for gifted axe players including Duane Trucks, Rob Eaton, the late Neal Casal, Zach Nugent, Grahame Lesh, and Elliot Peck. Jenny’s straps also grace legends we know as Mission Control, the Wolf, and the Alligator.

She shared, “Each strap has got its own place in my soul. They’re like my little offspring. Viscerally, on every level, it speaks for these people. It’s their story, but it’s in my words.”
